A free multi-format video encoder from NHC Software that allows you to convert videos. With support for the most popular video and audio file types, the application is able to convert one or more videos at a time with a few clicks.
Prism Video Converter presents a simple user interface that lets you convert video files without complications. Loading files to the conversion list is easy, and can be done by selecting individual files or folders, and also by drag and drop. Before converting, the application allows you to make some adjustments to your video, letting you modify parameters such as the quality, frame rate, size, etc. Likewise, it is possible to apply common effects like sepia, black and white, etc., as well as adjust brightness and contrast, rotate video, among other options. One problem I found using these options was that the application does not have a preview window that reflects the changes made instantly. Instead, it converts a segment of the video to show how it looks like with the applied effects, which takes a while to complete.
In terms of performance, the application is not outstanding either, though it did a good job in my testing converting a couple of short videos to MP4 in an average speed and with decent results. But the lack of GPU acceleration support and other performance features makes me doubt about its efficiency in handling larger video files.
In short, Prism Video Converter is a free alternative that offers the basic functions to convert videos; it is a good choice for users that need to convert short videos once in while. The application is available in two versions, one of which is free for non-commercial use.
